Michigan Training Camp is a gathering of traditional paddlers who enjoy sharing knowledge through informal discussion and skills mentoring. We maintain a casual and entirely flexible approach to the weekend.
On-site registration starts on Friday at 1:30 p.m. Our earlier arrivers are welcomed any time after 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Paddling-related — Kayak, Greenland-style paddle, spray skirt (full neoprene is best for rolling), PFD, bailing devise (pump or sponge), nose plugs or dive mask. While the air and water temperatures are expected to both be in the mid to high 70’s, prolonged exposure is more comfortable in proper paddling attire. While not required you may want to bring any of the following: tuiliq, drysuit, wetsuit, drytop, HydroSkin shirt/shorts, paddle jacket, polypro-shirt/shorts. NO COTTON!! As a Qajaq USA Sanctioned event we have access to an inventory of demonstration paddles, harpoons, skin on frame kayaks, tuiliq’s and aquilisaq’s. Please note that these are for demonstration purposes and are not intended to be used throughout the entire weekend.
Additional information will be sent with your confirmation package (sent via e-mail).
In 2006 we held our first Silent Auction, with proceeds benefiting the event. It was a HUGE success. We repeated it in 2007 and plan another in 2008. Among last years donations were wonderful paddles, norsaqs, changing robes, photographs, pottery and gift certificates. If you have something you would enjoy donating to our cause, please bring it along and you’ll have our heartfelt appreciation.
Each year we have also held a raffle and enjoy providing a huge range of fun items like hats, t-shirts, Qajaq USA membership etc.
Please bring cash or checkbook if you sense you’ll want to participate.
